Shaken Baby Bill has Just Three Steps to Go!

Our bill to reduce Shaken Baby Syndrome has just three steps to go before becoming law!  On June 26, 2007, six of the seven members of the Assembly Human Services Committee voted in favor of the bill, sending it on to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.  Next steps:

  1. Passing Assembly Appropriations
  2. Passing in the Full Assembly
  3. Receiving the Governor's signature

Developments to Date:

  • PCA CA decides to draft and sponsor legislation to reduce Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Senator Alex Padilla (D-San Fernando Valley) signs on as author
  • SB 468 passes in the Senate Human Services Committee
  • SB 468 passes in the Senate Appropriations Committee
  • SB 468 passes on the Senate floor
  • SB 468 passes in the Assembly Human Services Committee

 

PCA-CA’s 1st Bill Signed by Governor Schwarzenegger: SB 1668 Becomes Law!

On September 30 Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 1668 (Bowen) into law. This new law, which will take effect on January 1, 2007, amends section 11174.32 of the Penal Code relating to Child Death Review Teams.  The law was proposed by PCA CA in order to further the effective work of these county-level teams.  Learn more...

The Hearing is a SUCCESS! Education Begins at Home Heard in D.C.

On September 27, the U.S. House Education Reform Subcommittee held a hearing on early childhood home visiting programs. The hearing, which received a large, bipartisan turnout of twelve members of Congress, examined the proposed Education Begins at Home Act (EBAH, H.R. 3628). EBAH would create the first federal funding source specifically for early childhood home visiting.  Learn more...
