Training Overview 

Welcome to PCA CA’s training department, a part of the CAP Center Training & Development Institute.  Our mission is to promote a healthy and prosperous future for children, their families and communities, by enhancing the capacities of those who serve them in California and beyond.

The wide range of high quality, interactive workshops we offer enhance the skills and knowledge critical to the achievement of positive outcomes related to child abuse prevention.  By assisting individuals and organizations in developing their knowledge and skills, we can improve the outcomes of the children and families they serve. 

Our training and development philosophy is based on three core principals: 

Competency-Based Training -- Training and technical assistance should be geared toward building the knowledge, skills and behaviors that are directly geared to competencies needed to provide quality family support services.

Tailored Curricula -- The adage that “one size fits all” is not true for training.  While the concepts and information may be the same for two different organizations, the examples, delivery method, language, and key objectives must be tailored to the needs and culture of those being trained.  We assess these individual needs prior to any training workshop.

Long Term Access  -- Our goals go beyond the delivery of a workshop; we strive to build long-term partnerships by making our staff, resources, and materials available on an ongoing basis.  We encourage a continued dialogue with our partners so that we may grow together.

Workshops focus in the areas of child development, family support, and the prevention of child abuse and neglect.  We also offer a number of workshops on various topics relevant to childcare providers, family resource centers, and home visitation programs.  PCA CA’s trainers work with organizations both large and small to meet their staff development, program planning, program evaluation and operational needs.

Our training and development services are offered to individuals who want one specific workshop or to those who want to develop a professional concentration in a particular area.  We also provide workshops and technical assistance for organization teams.  Training is provided both at our state-of-the-art training facility and off-site locations most convenient to our clients.
